Standup Journal caught up with waterman, author, ocean pioneer and motivational speaker Chris Bertish last week in an exclusive Q&A to discuss the release of his long awaited film, “Last Known Coordinates”. In this film, he takes us on the journey of his 93-day solo SUP Crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.

Q&A with Chris Bertish on Transatlantic SUP Crossing

Standup Journal gave nearly daily accounts of Bertish’s solo SUP crossing of the Atlantic ocean in 2018. We tracked him via his GPS Tracker and were the first to interview this extreme water athlete when he arrived on shore in Antigua. It was only fitting that we caught up with him at home in South Africa recently to conduct Bertish’s first ever Media Q&A on this crossing and the release of his new film, “Last Known Coordinates”.

Where to View “Last Known Coordinates”

Last Known Coordinates” is available for streaming across multiple platforms. You can find this 51-minute feature film about one man’s SUP journey that changed the way the world viewed the impossible on:

Watch Rare Interview with Bertish at Home in South Africa

In the YouTube video above, you will hear direct questions from Standup Journal’s viewers to Bertish about the making of his film as well as detailed questions regarding aspects of his journey never released before publicly on any medium.

It is a rare chance to catch this extreme ocean athlete, conservationist, motivational speaker, author and filmmaker in an exclusive interview. The discussion is both focused and expansive, moving from exacting descriptions of ocean currents and food supplies to inspiring glimpses of Bertish’s inner psyche and what makes his drive for success so absolute.

You will not be disappointed by the convo. It runs deep, so settle in, grab a brew (or two) and be transported into Bertish’s journey of 93 days at sea, alone and unsupported. This is a mission many people believed to be impossible; but then, Bertish doesn’t usually play by those rules. His exceptional talent, experience and massive willpower kept him moving forward, one stroke at a time, to cross an ocean of possibility to become the first ever solo ocean SUP crossing expedition on the planet.

Bertish’s Next Crossing: The TransPac Wing Project

Stay tuned at Standup Journal for updates on Chris Bertish’s new project:  the Transpac Wing Project.  In this upcoming expedition, Bertish will attempt to cross the Pacific Ocean alone on a wing foil to raise awareness for ocean conservancy efforts and underprivileged children. Bertish is currently prepping his wing craft made with custom foils for this passage. He will launch in June/July 2022 to become the first ever to make such a journey.
