The final day of the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout has ended without a winner due to injuries sustained by multiple surfers. The thoughts and well wishes go out to those surfers including Kala Grace, Makua Rothman, and Billy Kemper. The conditions were ideal with epic double-overhead Pipeline waves and many are calling it the best conditions of the season. Kelly Slater put on a great performance and stood out among the other top surfers. The broadcast also provided informative insights on Hawaiian history and culture. Despite the injuries, the contest was overall great with peak performances from Kelly Slater, Kala Grace, Benji Brand, Eimeo Czermak, and Clay Marzo. The only downside was the scoring, which was difficult to keep track of. The North Shore lifeguards also did an admirable job in rescuing surfers during the event.
