This holiday season locals of Phoenix, Arizona are acting in place of Santa Claus as they gift children in need with high-quality skateboard setups through the non-profit Cowtown S.K.A.T.E program.
The legendary skate shop in the Phoenix, Arizona Valley region, Cowtown Skateboards, started a non-profit organization called Cowtown S.K.A.T.E in 2018, which helps kids in need get set up with quality skateboards, expanding access to the hobby and all the mental, social, and physical benefits that come along with it.
Rather than purchasing low-quality skateboards at department stores, donators can purchase high-quality setups through the program at a discounted rate, which are then sent off to a partner organization to be gifted to underserved children.
“To some of these kids, the skateboard serves as a literal life raft out of a bad situation, or when they may be experiencing a time of stress, trauma or crisis,” Trent Martin, co-founder of Cowtown S.K.A.T.E says. “Skateboarding can impact someone’s life enough to change the trajectory of their future.”
