A viral video captured the teenage rookie battling crushing 10-foot waves to save a drowning 10-year-old boy, and now, President Donald Trump publicly invited the young hero to the White House to receive a high civilian honor.

The dramatic rescue unfolded over the weekend when sudden, long-period hurricane swells transformed a routine beach day into a life-and-death struggle in a heartbeat.
Eyewitness footage recorded by beachgoer Scott Vander Dussen captured Williams sprinting into the roaring water, locking the young boy in a tight, protective grip, and ducking beneath crashing shorebreak chaos.

Vander Dussen recounted:
“You could see that he had this like gorilla grip and was preventing that young man from being swept back out to the ocean even further. It caught a lot of people off-guard. Unfortunately, this young man was overwhelmed and swept out in just a moment’s time.”
Despite getting repeatedly battered by heavy whitewater and dragged backward by violent rip currents, Williams maintained a relentless hold, eventually pulling the child safely ashore with the help of a second lifeguard.
The viral clip quickly caught national attention, prompting Eric Trump to post that the high schooler represented “truly the best of America.” Shortly after, President Trump shared the rescue footage on X, extending an official invitation to the nation’s capital:

Rather than accepting personal donations or GoFundMe donations, she urged well-wishers to support local Junior Guards training programs, emphasizing how crucial ocean safety education is along California’s treacherous coastline.
Thanks to Ryder’s quick instincts, elite training, and refusal to let go amidst the chaotic surf, the 10-year-old boy was evaluated by paramedics on scene and safely reunited with his grateful family.
