It’s snowing at California’s Sugar Bowl, and the parks crew is celebrating with a launch party.

The Lake Tahoe-area resort announced back in October that it would be doubling down on its freestyle terrain parks. Sugar Bowl Parks was designed to garner talent of elite park skiers and riders. It called in some of the best park builders in the country, like Charles Beckinsale and Steve Petrie, and it will open that to the public on Valentine’s Day, 2025.

Brandon Dodds is the head park builder, and Mike Shipani is the park manager. Scroll through Sugar Bowl’s announcement below. Keep reading for more info.

“The forecast is calling for multiple feet of snow falling this week… while we rebuild the park come make some pow turns,” the Sugar Bowl Parks crew said in an Instagram post. “To ensure the parks are in peak condition, we’re giving the crew an extra week to shape the terrain. With more snow to work with, they’ll create more features, more jumps, more terrain and more stoke.”

There are three parks set to open: Peregrine Ridge, Golden Eagle, and the Condor. That will bring the grand total of parks to four. The new parks are about more than jumps and rails, Sugar Bowl’s website says. It’s about creating a training ground for California-based athletes to progress through the ranks. When it’s open, Sugar Bowl can be a one-stop shop for riders to go from beginner to pro.

“With the launch of the first phase of Sugar Bowl Parks this year, we will continue to build on the vision and begin earth work planning this summer,” the website says. “We’re just getting started, bringing a whole new culture to the mountain like never before—and something big is on the way. “

Here’s the schedule for February 14, 2025:

9 a.m: An all-day jam sessions with top ski and snowboard pros, accessible from the Christmas Tree Express | Golden Eagle & Peregrine Ridge

1-3pm: Ribbon cutting, world-class athletes, live DJs, giveaways, and exclusive merch.

OnTheSnow has forecast 25” of snow for Tuesday, another 17” to fall Thursday, and another 12” on Friday. It’s already snowed a foot in the past 24 hours.

Sugar Bowl held two freestyle-inspired events last season to celebrate freestyle skiing and riding. The Silver Belt Classic featured a natural terrain park that blended slopestyle and freeriding. Then Jib League – created by James Woods, Øystein Bråten, and Ferdinand Dahl – encouraged riders to ski how they wanted, rather than appealing to judges.
