Whistler Blackcomb has confirmed that the Horstman Glacier will not open for summer skiing in 2024 due to a season of poor snow, leading to the cancellation of popular summer training camps on the glacier.

For Whistler’s Momentum Camps, the primary user of the glacier during the summer months, this was difficult news to accept. The Horstman Glacier at Blackcomb is one of only three locations in North America that offers summer snowboarding, the other being Mount Hood in Oregon and Woodward Copper in Colorado, both of which will remain open this summer.

Momentum Camps had been open for registration until the decision to cancel was made in early April. Those registered for the June and July camps will be refunded, as Momentum was unable to quickly arrange alternative offerings that matched the appeal of Horstman Glacier. While they did have to cancel summer camp operations, they were able to change the dates of adult camp to keep them afloat and operated those in May.

While 2024 presents a challenging situation, Momentum has overcome disruptions before in 2020 and 2021, and emerged stronger. Their focus for 2024 will be on T-Bar operations as a way to hopefully maintain summer snowboard camps.
