Editor’s Note: Have a question for Dibi Fletcher? She’s definitely got answers. Or at least a perspective. Don’t hold back, shoot her a DM on Instagram and ask away. Here’s this week’s dispatch from the Matriarch of Radical…

Hey Dibi… I keep hearing about DSRT Surf. It looks amazing, what do you think? – Curious in LA
Hey Curious in LA… I’ve been fortunate and have gotten to spend a couple of days recently at DSRT Surf featuring North America’s largest Wave Garden Cove surf lagoon and I’m blown away at the engineering technology they have perfected to create waves for all levels of surfing. It’s hard to believe when I came to the desert as a kid, I’d now be watching my husband, sons, grandsons and handfuls of who’s who from contemporary professional surfing roasters, surf flawless waves in the desert. Perfect glassy tubes, truly a modern desert miracle.

Hey Dibi… I’m advancing but still get frustrated on smaller summer waves. How do I stay stoked in “crappy” conditions? – Perfectionist in Florida
Hey Perfectionist in Florida… Reframe the mindset and consider the smaller waves in less than perfect conditions as “skill builders”. Remember Kelly Slater grew up surfing the same slop and I believe if you asked him, he’d say the conditions taught him the skills for carving out his own style that would carry him to the heights of surfing perfection. Every condition has something to teach; the stoke thrives on the journey.

Hey Dibi… Summer travel is tempting but expensive. Got any budget advice to keep the stoke high without big trips? – Broke Surfer in Washington
Hey Broke Surfer in Washington… Explore local spots you normally overlook, organize carpool missions to a place off the beaten track that you may have considered but never made it happen.  Watch free surf cams and forecasts faithfully. Host backyard BBQs with your crew and share recent surf clips while planning a staycation surf challenge (one new spot per week). Stoke doesn’t need a passport, just curiosity and the tenacity to keep it alive.

Hey Dibi… Mid-summer slump is hitting hard. The waves are fun but I’m losing the fire. How do I keep the vibe alive… – Slumping in Santa Cruz
Hey Slumping in Santa Cruz… Change it up! Try a new spot. Go skate. Switch boards, chase a different type of wave, surf with new friends. Push yourself out of the familiar comfort zone that’s making you feel stagnant. Sometimes just watching a classic surf film or planning a fall trip reignites the spark. Remember the time you first got tubed? Chase that feeling again, and be aware, it may come from a direction you least expect, so keep an open mind and always be prepared for Magic.

Hey Dibi… Summer work is draining me and I’m missing sessions. Any advice for fitting surfing in without burning out?  – Burned in Venice
Hey Burned in Venice… Quality over quantity. Even a quick 45-minute dawn patrol or a sunset session keeps the connection alive. Pack your gear the night before and treat sessions like non-negotiable appointments. Pair it with thoughtful recovery- good food, stretching, and sleep. A short fun session beats no session and keeps all cylinder’s firing.
