Key Points

  • “Skate Craft” exhibition opens at Mingei Museum in San Diego this November.
  • Exhibit showcases skateboarding’s DIY evolution, creativity, and artisanal craftsmanship.
  • Grant Brittain participates, presenting items and a slideshow about skate culture.

We first heard about this exhibit from our bros the Zenga Bros who’ve done all that incredible desgining at the Swatch Nines event in Waco, Texas. Now Grant Brittain has just posted that he’ll be a part of this group show as well. Check it out and mark your calendars to get down to SD! Skate Craft in Balboa Park.

“The “Skate Craft” exhibition at the @mingeimuseum in San Diego’s Balboa Park is opening in November and will be a must see on any Skateboarding Fan’s calendar. I will have a few items in the exhibit and will be giving a Slideshow in the theater. Scroll through for the details of the exhibition and stay tuned for other info. Stay up on the Mingei Museum’s site. Skate Craft celebrates skateboarding’s true “Do-It-Yourself” values, tracing its evolution from the early days of making decks in garages and building ramps from found lumber to the handcrafted works of art seen today.

Experience how skateboarding nurtures creativity, self-expression, and joy through artisanal craftsmanship. The progression of skateboard design, safety gear, and skate shoes, alongside the inventive machines that facilitated their creation, is driven by skaters taking it upon themselves to push boundaries.”
