When ESPN sold its majority interest in the X Games in 2022, MSP Sports Capital promised big changes. On January 14, 2025, the group announced perhaps the biggest change so far.
You can now bet on the X Games. Legally.
The league has partnered with ALT Sports Data to allow for regulated sports betting on X Games tentpole events. The goal is that fans will become more engaged with the events and the athletes who compete in them.
“This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to redefine fan engagement in some of the world’s most engaging and exciting sports,” ALT’s CMO Todd Ballard said in a press release. “X Games is the most iconic brand within the action sports community, and we are excited to bring innovative betting markets to their passionate fan base. By integrating sports betting, we aim to create deeper connections, attract new audiences, and drive the continued growth.”
The move comes ahead of X Games Aspen taking place in Colorado on January 23 through 25. It also comes ahead of the X Games League, a new global, team-based format that will offer different events and shakeup the weekend-long process that has dominated X Games for years now.
“The passion fans have for their favorite action sports stars rivals that of any other sport. At X Games, we’re committed to creating innovative ways for fans to express and deepen that passion,” X Games CEO said in a press release. “Our partnership with ALT Sports marks an exciting step forward, giving the action sports community a new way to engage with their favorite athletes and events through sports betting—a feature that has been integral to other professional sports.”

ALT Sports Data offers league rights data to the largest sportsbook operators in the world, which then gives fans the opportunity to gamble on professional and amateur sports. It has not been made known just which sportsbooks will feature X Games odds, and in which states.
The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 outlawed sports betting nationwide. That was overruled on May 14, 2018, when the United States Supreme Court declared the entire law unconstitutional.
Sports gambling is legal and operational in 38 states and the District of Columbia. It is legal but not yet operational in Missouri, and there is active legislation to legalize it in Texas. Attendees in Aspen, Colorado, will be able to place bets live from Buttermilk.
