Desert Point is about to make a little history.

The legendary Lombok lefthander will host its first-ever surf competition this month as Capitulo Perfeito brings its tube-hunting format to Indonesia. The waiting period opens today (September 1) and runs through September 15—The entire event is expected to run on just one perfect day during one perfect window, when the waves are pumping.

The eight-man field includes 2025 Capitulo Perfeito finalists Balaram Stack, Cam Richards, Nic von Rupp and Pedro Calado, along with Indonesian wildcards Sulaiman and Usman Trioko. Two additional global wildcards are still to be announced.

Before the main event gets underway, eight Lombok locals — Awan, Hendra, Rusdi, Fajrul, Ilham, Budi, Darmawan and Ziggy — will take part in a Local Heat. The top two will earn their spots in the main draw.

The event replaces the typical contest format checklist with a much simpler mission: score perfect barrels. Only tubes will count, with 45-minute heats and the surfers chasing a wildcard into the 2027 Capitulo Perfeito at Carcavelos, Portugal.

However, with Desert Point’s notoriously fickle reputation, patience will be key. Organizers will give surfers 72 hours’ notice before making the official call to run.

If the forecast lines up like we all hope it will, Desert Point is about to showcase one helluva fireworks show. Stay tuned to SURFER social channels for all event updates.
