Imagine being an 11-year-old goofy foot from Bali and having Rob Machado look you in the eye to tell you he’s inspired by your surfing.

Sounds like a dream, right?

For Made “Satria” Sugiantara, it’s just reality. In “Time Will Tell” — a new 15-minute mini-profile on one of Indonesia’s brightest young talents — Satria showcases a rare level of talent and by the midday way point in the movie it’s obvious why an Icon like Machado would take notice. From heavy Padang to the Mentawais, every single clip in the film was stacked when Satria was just 9 and 10 years old. Let that sink in.

How many kids are packing bombs at Padang in the single digits? Satria isn’t just picking off the inside scraps, either. At the 9:30 mark, he stands tall in a 5-foot slab, hands casually behind his back. It’s the kind of wave grown adults spend a lifetime chasing (and usually never ride). Satria claimed it at 10. How long until he’s doing this in the Padang Cup? How about on the CT?

“The ocean doesn’t ask who you are, it just waits for you. It teaches you to fall… and to rise again,” Satria reflects in the opening scene. This isn’t a media-trained line or an AI script—it’s just who he is. Grounded, well-spoken, and remarkably mature. Spend a few minutes with Satria and you’ll quickly understand what we mean. Credit goes to his father, Bouekit, and a tight-knit community that keeps him humble on land while also calling him into set waves at big Uluwatu.

Between Satria in Bali and Tahiti’s 13-year-old Kelia Mehani Gallina (aka “Miss Teahupo’o”) charging Chopes, the next generation of tuberiders is in good hands. But before we rush to crown Satria the future Prince of Padang, let’s just allow him to be a kid who loves to surf, at least until he’s a teenager. What does the future hold? At this point, only time will tell.
