Nathan Florence changed the game in 2023.

With his self-proclaimed “Slab Tour,” Nate, the younger brother of 2x surfing world champ John John Florence, went on strike mission bender – one of such epic proportions, previously unseen in surfing, that there was no doubt, nobody even came close, nobody questioned it: Nate was the most tubed human of 2023.

And now, with the year coming to a close, it’s time to look back.

Nate’s latest vlog is not a strike mission to some monstrosity of a surf spot; it’s a recap, a retrospect, a remembrance of the year. As such, he titled it:

“VIEW FROM 13 BARRELS AT 13 DIFFERENT WAVES IN ONE YEAR”

The lineup of tube visions include: Jaws, Backdoor Pipeline, Pipeline, Shark Island (Australia), The Box (Australia), Teahupo’o (Tahiti), Puerto Escondido (Mexico), Costa Rica, Shipstern Bluff (Tasmania), remote slab in sharky waters (Australia), Skeleton Bay (Namibia), The Cave (Portugal), remote northern UK slab, and Mullaghmore (Scotland).

Damn. That’s some serious frequent flyer miles he racked up.

Not to mention the tube time, of course.

Is there any way to calculate how much time he spent in the tube in just one year? How many minutes he was getting barreled? What percentage of his life was in the barrel throughout 2023? Let’s get a mathematician on that asap.

When asked during our recent-ish interview with older brother John John regarding who got more barreled this year – him or Nate? – JJF replied:

“Him! By far! The guy gets better waves than anyone.”

Can Nate top it 2024? Should the “Slab Tour” become a legit thing?

Stay tuned.
