All eyes have been on Hawaii since Jaws and the North Shore started pumping in October.

But it wasn’t long ago that surfers made the pilgrimage to South Africa for Skeleton Bay’s mythical wave that woke up like a sleeping princess in a fairytale after a four-year sleep.

When the princess awoke last summer, suitors with surfboards arrived from all over to pursue her beautiful barrels that dreams are made of. Koa Smith got mental barrels, Nathan Florence completed a full marathon, and Kelly Slater surfed it for the first time.

Now Smith is here to remind us of his true love with a flashback to Skeleton Bay in his latest vlog above. He captioned it:

“BEST POV Rides Surfing Skeleton Bay – Koa Smith & Benji Brand 2023

“This video is F*^&ked up! Here’s our best waves from Skeleton Bay 2023 all in one video!! Benji Brand was the first person to show me Skeleton Bay.

“A place that has changed both of our lives. It’s showed us a level of surfing and feeling that can’t really be found elsewhere! Enjoy this”

For 15 minutes, the edit gives viewers the chance to live the Skeleton Bay fairytale from Smith’s POV. These aren’t just any barrels, they’re the ones that made Smith feel “most connected with The Source.”

Press play above for an epic throwback.

Viewers loved it. Check out one of the comments below:

“Dear god the first wave was every bit of a minute plus in the barrel. Freaking love the stuff from Skeleton Bay. It’s just wild in every respect. RLTW 3/75”

Smith responded:

“Definitely the longest tube of my life! You can tell by my facial expressions how baffled I was”
