For all of our faults and flaws, the surf world knows how to look after its own. This is especially true when it comes to those who give back to others and pay it forward.

That’s exactly what’s happening right now as the surf world rallies around Rolando Stanley Ozuna, a hard-charging Mexican pro surfer who suffered a freak accident and broke his femur while surfing his home break. If you’re in a position to support, please check out the GoFundMe here.

From the GoFundMe page: Rolando is faced with a long and difficult road to recovery after breaking his femur while surfing in Mexico. Immediate medical treatment was not accessible as it took nearly an hour to get him onto a ski and out of the water due to heavy surf. He was then put into the back of a truck and rushed to the closest urgent care.

Rolando means the world to those who know and love him, and those that do understand that movement is the center of Rolando’s life. He’s tough as nails but this injury has turned life around in the blink of an eye. While his recovery is mainly physical, it will also be a mental and emotional battle. All costs towards a full recovery are uninsured and out of pocket… needing extensive physical therapy, Rolando will be unable to work or financially support himself for the foreseeable future making this already stressful situation even more overwhelming.

Right now, the most urgent focus is getting Rolando access to the best care possible to begin healing. Donations to this fundraiser will help cover out of pocket costs toward surgery, treatment, medical bills, physical therapy, and living expenses while he recovers. All of the support to relieve financial pressure will give Rolando the space to focus on healing and a full recovery.

Rolando is an intensely grateful human being. Movement being the center of his life is intertwined with the community he’s been able to build and show up for. He truly operates from the kindness of his heart. Any donation that goes towards his healing will mean so much to him, his community, family, and everyone who loves him.

Rolando, who is close friends with Al Cleland Jr., recently did a clean water project in Fiji that shows he’s the type of person to help others in need. Now, it’s our turn to help support him in this difficult time. Please share and support his GoFundMe here.
