Red Bull Heavy Metal is returning to Minnesota on February 10th, 2024 but at a completely new location: the Minnesota State Capitol Building. What what what?!

Red Bull Heavy Metal stands as one of the most popular and insane street snowboarding events. It is a condensed, single day competition boasting an array of distinctive obstacles and lines strategically arranged within a down town locale, this particular one being Saint Paul. Originating in the early 2000s and coming back in recent years after a hiatus, the competition emerged to honor snowboarders who ventured beyond traditional mountain and resort settings. This event had the goal of illuminating street snowboarding, a style of snowboarding that accentuates the use of features reminiscent of skateparks, such as rails, stairs, and other urban elements.

The Heavy Metal series was rejuvenated in January 2022 with the first Red Bull Heavy Metal in nearly two decades, hosted at Cascade Park in Duluth, MN, and subsequently relocated to Hart Plaza in Detroit, MI for 2023. Fast forward to 2024, and the world’s premier street snowboarders are set to showcase their talents and skills on a specially crafted course situated on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul.

Mayor of Saint Paul Melvin Carter offered his excitement for the February event, “We are thrilled to welcome this exciting event to Saint Paul as we celebrate the remarkable talent of these world-class athletes,” said Mayor Carter. “This showcase set against our city’s stunning backdrop will mesmerize audiences and emphasize how our community embraces the winter months.”
