The world’s largest Black surfing competition welcomed thousands of beach goers and surfers to Huntington Beach Pier for the fifth annual, A Great Day in the Stoke (AGDITS). With Hurricane Rachel lingering in the background, attendees experienced a range of conditions, from head-high swell, to rain and wind, while watching an incredible display of talent in the water.

The weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, as a double dutch contest, beachside yoga, and impromptu rain dances kept the energy high on the beach.

Several past champions returned to reclaim their titles, including Senegal’s Sidy Camara and Brazil’s Potira Nascimento, who secured back-to-back wins in men’s and women’s shortboard divisions. Hawaii’s Julian Williams and Sahara Coleman, continued their winning streaks, each earning their third victory in the men’s and women’s longboard divisions..

New champions emerged in other categories, with Kody Grunig taking the win in Boys’ Groms and Maysym Gonzalez claiming the top spot in Beginners. Frank Clark rounded out the competition with a coveted victory in the Legends division.
