What is the Panda Paddle?
Each year, the World Wildlife Fund creates a dynamic fundraiser to raise awareness for their environmental causes by “putting people in nature to help protect it.” This is the Panda Paddle. This year’s event is a Virtual Race or Recreational Paddle Experience. Paddlers help to raise money for this great cause and participate in a variety of paddling experiences on the weekend of August 21st – 23rd. No matter what your current skill level, if you have board & paddle, you can participate.
Protect the planet AND paddle? Sounds like fun!
Paddle for the Environment: World Wildlife Virtual Panda Paddle
Option #1: Recreational Fun Paddle: Just Have Fun!
For newbie paddlers or those who just don’t want to race, the Panda Paddle’s Recreational Paddle virtual event invites you to connect with nature by being in it. In this experience, you paddle in your own back yard or local waterways! All manner of water crafts are welcome including: stand up paddleboards, prone paddleboards, outriggers, surfskis, kayaks or canoes. All YOU have to do is go for a paddle in nature & help raise the funds to protect it.
Option #2: Virtual Paddle Competitive Race
Stand up paddle racers and competitors can sign up for the Panda Paddle’s Virtual Paddle Competition to go fast and protect the environment. Paddle racers will register for either the 5KM or 10KM courses and use a fitness tracker to keep track of time. For this virtual event, you choose your race course in your own local waters. Race the course and record your time on a Garmin or other fitness tracker.
You can even train with race director and SUP legend Anthony Vela using the virtual training videos on the Panda Paddle’s website. Support the WWF and keep your training top notch for this great event! Race times be accepted after August 23rd, 2020.
Register for Panda Paddle to Protect the Planet
Registrants will make a one-time donation of $30 to participate and be given an individual or team fundraising page where you can ask family and friends to participate. Have them support you and help preserve the planet’s natural habitats. If you love water as we do, it’s easy to ask for support. Plus, this is an opportunity to ‘get together’ with people virtually from all over who share a similar lifestyle. And, if racing, it’s a chance to test your mettle against some of our best SUP racers to see where you stack up!
All in all, a fun weekend for everybody! If not racing yourself, you can support Team Standup Journal in our quest to protect what we love most… water!
P.S. Did we mention there is SWAG?
