The Brazilian Storm was coined 10-ish years ago when Gabriel Medina, Adriano De Souza, Filipe Toledo, Miguel Pupo, and Jadson Andre literally stormed the Championship Tour.
In fact, since Medina’s first world title in 2014, a Brazilian has been the world champion every year except for 2016 and 2017 when John Florence managed to sneak two in back-to-back.
Talk about world domination.
And while the 2% Crew is gaining a lot of steam, the Brazilian Storm is showing no signs of slowing down. Not with Filipe Toledo, Gabriel Medina, and Italo Ferreira on tour. Not to mention the Pupo brothers or Yago Dora, who could all make a run for a title of their own.
And it’s not like there’s any gap in talent behind those power three.
In the independent surf film above, from filmmaker Bruno Zanin, Brazil’s past, present and future talent is on full display. “In a world where we are drowned in shallow content everyday, surf films have been losing ground,” writes Zanin. “VRLTA was born with the idea of consuming content with essence and truth again.”
Watch this, and we’re sure you’ll agree: The Brazilian Storm won’t be dissipating anytime soon.
