Team KiteWorldWide in Egypt:
Kitesurfing in the Seahorse Bay and El Gouna
The two kitegirls Esther und Insa, from our sales team in Hamburg wanted to get some sun and check out our kitespots at the Seahorse Bay and in El Gouna for you guys. They wanted to escape the cold and grey weather in Hamburg and got a flight ticket to Hurghada to see what’s going on in the Seahorse Bay and check out the kitesurfing spot & wind conditions. And since El Gouna is just a stone throw away, they checked out the new spot that we’ve added to our world map of kitesurfing destinations. In November 2019 we started a cooperation with the Makani Beachclub in El Gouna.
Arrival in Egypt (Seahorse Bay)
With a direct flight from Hamburg it took them only five hours to get to the sun and our girls were picked up at the airport by our transfer driver. At the Airport they both got the prepared visa directly and were accompanied to the luggage counter – everything was super easy! After a short drive of about 20 minutes both arrived at the kite club at Seahorse Bay.
The Kiteclub at the Seahorse Bay
In the kiteclub, the girls were warmly welcomed by the team and guided around by Sveta, our kiteclub manager. The familiar accommodation with the eleven rooms, sun deck, a pool, the garden and several chill out areas is truly an oasis in the desert of Egypt. And the best thing about it: the kitespot is only 20 meters far from your room. So it’s time for kitesurfing!
Another highlight of the kite club is the sauna. You ask yourself why a sauna in Egypt? Insa and Esther are convinced and recommend everyone to use it! Especially after the kitesurfing session in the ‘winter’ there is nothing better than relaxing every muscle in the hot sauna!
Kitesurfing in Egypt – right on our doorstep
“From bed to board” is truly correct at Seahorse Bay because at our destination in Egypt you live right next to the spot. The large shallow water lagoon with its shallow water area offers a great spot for beginners who are learning how to kitesurf but also for advanced kitesurfers to try out their next trick. The Beachboys will support you with setting up your kite as well as with launching and landing the kites. When you are on the water, they also always keep an eye on you. The number of kiters is limited to 25 persons, so there is enough space for everyone to kitesurf. The spot is ideal for people who want to learn kitesurfing, take a kitesurfing course to refresh their skills or already know how to kite and want to improve their skills.
The kite course for Insa started directly the day after arrival with the first theory units with our VDWS licensed kite instructor Hamada. Unfortunately Esther had an injury in Germany before coming to Egypt so this time she could only watch the action from the beach and in this case she was the “non-kiting companion”.
What’s also important after kiting: the food and the community!
Besides kitesurfing, one thing is most important in the Seahorse Bay: the community! During dinner which they always have at a long table, the two of them got to know the other guests directly and were able to talk about past kitesurfing trips. Due to the familiar atmosphere, the accommodation is also very suitable for single travelers!
In the morning they had an extensive breakfast, which could be arranged individually at the counter. Everything is freshly prepared and cooked in the Kiteclub. Half board is included, but also at lunchtime you will be taken care of. The team can prepare different dishes for you from 12pm – 4 pm for an affordable price. If there is no wind, the sun terrace, various (beach) games and SUP’s will provide you with alternatives and you will be right on the spot when the wind finally kicks in. Also trips for hiking and climbing in the desert, diving or to Luxor & Cairo can be organized spontaneously.
General Kitesurfing infrastructure in El Gouna
Beside the kite club in El Gouna we also offer kite camps together with Kiteboarding-Events. El Gouna is located about 1 hour north of Hurghada and is an artificially created town. There are several hotels, bars, shops and a very nice marina.
Insa and Esther visited different hotels in El Gouna for you and talked to the local staff. We offer different, all very authentic and modern hotels, so there is something for everyone: from small managed hotels with 63 modern rooms at the marina, golf or family hotels with children’s entertainment. There is something for all needs and wishes!
In El Gouna you can enjoy culinary delights in various restaurants in the evenings, go for a walk along the marina or relax in a bar to end the day.
Kitespot El Gouna – Makani Beach Club
From the hotels in El Gouna you can reach the Makani Beach Club in about 15 minutes by Tuk Tuk, the turquoise blue water is waiting for you! The Makani Beach Club is, as the name itself says, a beautiful beach club. Due to the use of a lot natural materials like bamboo, palm roofs or wood every visitor feels immediately comfortable!
The beach bar directly at the beach serves cold and hot drinks, fresh juices as well as smoothies and alcoholic beverages. In addition, the Kiteclub put focus on a healthy and balanced menu. At the Makani Beach Club you will get a great selection of fresh dishes. Besides smoothie bowls, special salad creations, falafel, pasta and burgers, a Thai chef will conjure up first-class Thai food such as Pad Thai and Tom Kha Gai. So there is something for everyone here!
Esther and Insa treated themselves to the really delicious Thai food with a fresh smoothie and a view of the kitesurfers. Conclusion: Really breathtaking!
In several chillout areas with hammocks and sun beds you can relax and spend your day at the sea between kite sessions.
For those of you who still have enough energy after their kite session can train for free in the outdoor gym. The Kiteclub also offers spinning courses, CrossFit and a yoga class. If you have put too much strain on your body while kitesurfing in Egypt, you can get some relief from the physiotherapist or a massage.
You can kite all day long with side on-shore wind in the huge flat water lagoon – even at low tide the water is still deep enough for kitesurfing. By the way, the conditions are perfect for all kite levels. The kite school is equipped with the latest material from Duotone Kiteboarding and the experienced kite instructors will make sure that you will safely reach the next level.
Esther and Insa would have liked to stay longer in Egypt for kitesurfing. Saying goodbye to the team and the guests was hard, in a short period of time the two made new friends, went kitesurfing in the Seahorse Bay and El Gouna and had a great time!
