While most were suiting up in their Sunday best on Easter morning, a handful of Australian tube hunters suited up in rubber, jumped on jet skis, and headed off to rush a deepwater slab somewhere off the south coast of Australia.
While the wave resembles Pipeline, the names in the crowd do not. Rather than big name pros like John Florence and Koa Rothman packing bombs, it’s mostly unknown, blue collar Australian madmen rushing over the ledge and manhandling these 12-foot slabs. Aside from Russell Bierke, we’ll be surprised if you recognize a single name in the edit above.
And that’s OK. They don’t care if you recognize their names. Because you’ll recognize this is insane surfing, and that’s all that matters.
